Thank you for your interest in swim lessons.

Learning to swim is important for safety, social experiences and is a superb form of exercise.

I have been teaching children and adults to swim for more than twenty-five years. My swim teaching techniques are based on a developmental approach, that set my teaching style apart from others. I make it fun for swimmers and break down the steps incrementally, in order to guide a student towards the foundational skills needed to swim.

Each person is unique in how they learn.

Mastering the many components that are required to swim is a complicated process. Each person is unique in how they learn. The individuals that I work with range from those who have never been in a pool to triathletes seeking to improve their skills for the swim stage of a triathlon. I also coach recreational swimmers to enhance efficiency of strokes and breathing.
If a person is not yet able to put his or her face in the water that is where we start. Once a swimmer has mastered basic swim skills, we then work on the development and the refinement of swim strokes, endurance, survival skills and diving skills.

It is gratifying to witness a person gain mastery of their body in the water!

Gaining a swimmer's trust is the first step to help him or her feel safe and succeed. When working with a child, I make sure that he or she knows that they will always be safe with me and that I will never ask them to do something that they cannot do.  Initially, I assess the child's comfort and their abilities in the water. Together with the parent's goals and my assessment I am then able to establish a plan to achieve each goal. From one lesson to the next lesson, the focus is determined based upon the swim student's needs.
